Course Overview

Upon completion of these courses, learners will be able to identify and explain essential additive manufacturing (AM) concepts, including how to define AM, how AM works, AM processes and materials.

Learners have the flexibility to complete the online courses at their own learning pace. Courses are available 24 hours, 7 days a week. Three paths are available:

Continuing Education Units: Learners can earn 2.0 CEUs per course for a total of 6.0 CEUs total for either Level 1 Certificate or 8.0 CEUs total for the Honors Certificate.

This course provides a more detailed review of the standard AM processes, breaking down how layers are made, how energy is applied, and materials used. This includes technical and commercial capabilities and limitation considerations.

    Module 2: Vat Photopolymerization, Material Jetting and Material Extrusion

    Module 3: Powder Bed Fusion and Directed Energy Deposition

    Module 4: Binder Jetting and Sheet Lamination

    Describe additive manufacturing technology capabilities

AM Design

This is an advanced course focused on Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM). Students will learn to distinguish between AM design innovation and AM design mitigation techniques.

    Weigh factors across additive manufacturing processes to achieve specific design goals

    Apply additive manufacturing design principles to standard design features

    List disruptive design techniques made possible by additive manufacturing

ELECTIVE COURSE

AM Business & Economics

This course focuses on forming a business case for additive manufacturing. Learners will identify cost drivers to create opportunities for cost savings in additive manufacturing and to develop core additive manufacturing industrialization strategies.
