CLIENT SUCCESS STORY

Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM)

New Horizons Studio

The Barnes Global Advisors supported New Horizons Studio on AM technology and design techniques for building ultimate mobility vehicles.

New Horizons Studio

Background

New Horizons Studio was interested in assessing new advanced manufacturing materials and processes for building their ultimate mobility vehicles. The goal was to develop new ideas and solutions, including risk evaluations on manufacturability and technology readiness.

Approach

Training: TBGA delivered a highly interactive 2.5-day AM workshop covering AM design, business cases, and economics.

Systems Requirements: TBGA collaborated with the client on a Systems Requirements definition and flow-down exercise to draw out prototype and product requirements that set the stage for design and manufacturing with novel additive manufacturing materials.

Generative Design & DfAM: TBGA advised on DfAM techniques and created generative designs based on requirements and load cases.

Supplier Support: TBGA used its vast network and experience procuring and qualifying AM parts for highly regulated industries to support the client through the AM procurement process.

Solution

Successfully completing TBGA’s AM workshop and systems requirements definition process, the design team tackled the design and procurement of their first subsystem demonstration for the vehicle. Acting as an extension of the team, TBGA supported the client through design, process, and test planning decisions, supplier downselection, and parts procurement to create the first-ever vehicle of its kind made with cutting-edge, world-class technology.

Let’s achieve AM excellence together.
