CLIENT SUCCESS STORY
Neighborhood 91
The Barnes Global Advisors helped Allegheny County Airport Authority uplift the Pittsburgh region by creating economic opportunity and jobs with a targeted supply chain strategy focused on creating a resilient manufacturing system.
In addition to being an airport, the Allegheny County Airport Authority (ACAA) is one of the region’s largest landowners, sitting on almost 13,000 acres just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Developing the land is one way they diversity to keep costs low for airlines and build up the region simultaneously. In early 2019, the ACAA invited TBGA and The University of Pittsburgh to brainstorm an "Innovation Campus" concept on airport property. With Pittsburgh’s rich manufacturing history, and manufacturing jobs boasting the highest employment multiplier, an advanced manufacturing campus quickly surfaced.
With the problem defined, The Barnes Global Advisors collaborated with the ACCA to create and execute the strategy for the innovation campus now called Neighborhood 91. Pittsburgh’s 91st neighborhood - the first development in the world to condense and connect all components of the AM printing supply chain into one powerful production ecosystem set on 195 acres. TBGA serves as the lead consultant on the project, supporting the ACAA by developing and executing strategies for growth, operations, and sustainment. TBGA uses its vast global network to communicate, bring in, and connect strategic supply chain members. TBGA supports our partners with data-driven numbers and economic impact figures to recognize the potential of the campus. Together, TBGA and the ACAA are creating public-private partnerships and developing investment approaches for infrastructure to create pervasive value.
Less than three years from the initial dream, Neighborhood 91 is now a reality. The first two buildings are built and occupied, totaling over 46,000 square feet. Plans to build additional buildings are already in motion with an overwhelming response and interest to fill the space. Pittsburgh International Airport continues to live up to its 2020 Fast Company title, naming it one of the Most Innovative Companies in the World.
